Sepalau Lagoons

A peaceful enviroment, mountains, great treks, four lagoons and nature all around wait for you at Sepalau in Chisec.

Sepalau is a system of four independent lagoons, but when the rainy season arrives, they join for form three or less lagoons.

The view is amazing and the waters are really calm. The most valuable thing over there is the people who will welcome you and treat you as what we call -chilero-, really nice!.

Fishing is not allowed so avoid trying. The guides and guards really take care of the place. You can enjoy a short tour on a boat, rent a boat or a kayak. Also take a nice, short or long trek on the trails around the lagoons.

What to expect at Sepalau?

  • Warm weather and fresh air. The nights use to be really fresh and somehow cold sometimes.
  • Expect nature... there are no hotels at Sepalau but you can stay there for a little extra Qs.
  • Take your tent over there, ask for permission and camp at the place. There is a nice restaurant where if you are patient you can enjoy really nice meals prepared at the moment.
  • There is no infrastructure over there, so take enough money and food if you want to be on your own.

Where to eat?

You can have some great meals at the place, but if you want more variety, you can eat at the center of Chisec. There you will find several restaurants and cheap -comedores- to eat at the sides of the main streets. If you want to save money, try the -comedores-, the food is very tasty.

How to get to Sepalau

From Guatemala City follow Carretera al Atlantico, head to Coban. Just entering there take the turn to your left to Chisec. After 2 hours you will reach the center of Chisec.

Turn left from the market, ask for directions when in doubt, is quite easy. Follow a dirty tricky road taking you to Sepalau after 1 hour driving.

From Chisec-Sepalau you can head to the North of Guatemala reaching Peten passing next to Ceibal, Sayaxche and finally getting to Tikal If you want to.
