Escuintla ciudad de las palmeras

At only 40 minutes from Guatemala City, Escuintla is the place to go if you want enjoy sand, sun and the ocean. The beach is about 30 minutes from the City of Escuintla.

The road is wide and in great conditions allowing you to get there really fast. You will get to the urban center of Escuintla before reaching the beach.

Here you can find lots of commerce, Escuintla is a modern city with supermarkets, pharmacy stores, hotels, restaurants and different stores of many kind.

The weather is usually warm and humid. Depending on the season the green landscape might hide under the heavy but refreshing rain, which is in fact quite and spectacle.

Make your choice

You can get to Puerto San Jose, Likin and Puerto Iztapa after leaving the city of Escuintla behind. The ocean is right ahead of you driving south Guatemala. Trust me, you won't have any trouble following the signs from the main road and all the mentioned places are at just five minutes on a taxi or driving.

What to expect at Escuintla

Expect a warm weather and lots of places to eat seafood.

Amazing sunsets.

Enjoy dark sands on the beach. Yes, due to the volcanic activity, the eruptions covered the complete region with dark volcanic sand. There are in fact few beaches with white sand in Guatemala and all of them are in Izabal (ocean) or Peten (lakes with karstic white sand).

Fast access. Reaching the beach from Guatemala city is about 1 hour driving, you can get there in the morning and get back at noon.


How to get to Escuintla

The -periferico- highway takes you right to the Aguilar Batres. Keep driving and you will reach the end of Villalobos and then the road to Amatitlan. Stay on the road and you will reach the main highway to the south getting you straight to Escuintla and then the beach.

From Antigua Guatemala to Escuintla: Drive to Ciudad Vieja as if you go to the cemetery. You will reach the open highway which goes straight to the main highway heading to Escuintla.
