Lake Petén Itzá near Tikal

Lake Peten ItzaThere is much more to see on the way to Tikal than just the road.

The road goes around Lake Petén Itzá. Is one of the biggest lakes in Guatemala. The water is fresh, crystal clear and with white shores.

Lake Peten Itza

You can get to Lake Itzá right from San Benito or any point from Flores Petén.

Santa Elena is in fact an island surrounded by this beautiful lake.

Right on your way to Tikal you will reach Ixlú, which is exactly the turn to the left entering El Remate.

At this point you will see several handcrafts stores at the side of the lake.

Yes, the water is fresh to warm, never cold!. Make your choice and stop here for a meal, to rest or to take a swim at the lake. (no crocs or anything dangerous, just fun and relaxin atmosphere).
